Visit Santo Domingo for a Beautiful Holiday Experience

The capital city of Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo, is a beautiful city to spend your holiday. The months of December and January are the coolest months and are perhaps the best months to enjoy a wonderful holiday here. The key is to find cheap plane fares, so that you can have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. The good news is that getting cheap tickets to Santo Domingo is not a problem, as the city is serviced by major airlines, such as British Airways and US Airways. You can also try flying in from other Caribbean nations on Caribbean Airlines. You are bound to get a cheap airline ticket on this airline.

Flights to Santo Domingo will allow you to enjoy the beauty of this city. You will be able to visit the Parque Zoologico Nacional. This is said to be the largest zoo in the entire Caribbean. It is spread over an area of 400 acres. The park is home to many mammals, such as Hutia and Solendon. The former was thought to be extinct, but is flourishing in the park here. Hutia is extremely rare and can be easily recognized with its long ears.

Those, who enjoy shopping should make use of cheap flights to Santo Domingo and visit Avenida Winston Churchill area of the city. This is the place for large shopping malls and supermarkets. It is also home to offices of large banks. Another vibrant and commercial area for tourists is the Malecon. Here you will find many hotels, shops and Trujillo-era structure, such as the huge obelisk located at George Washington Avenue.

Culture lovers should head to Teatro Nacional, the national theater of the city. If you are lucky you will be able to catch a magnificent play here. Another place that is worth checking out is Palacio Nacional, which is where the president of the country lives and has his offices. The Palace of Fine Arts is also worth visiting to check out the neoclassical architecture. You can even catch a performance of the national symphony orchestra here. If you are looking for work by local artists and sculptors, head to Avenida 27 de Febero. This is a pedestrian avenue where you can check out displays along the avenue.

If you want to find out more about the country's struggle and fight for freedom during Balaguer and Trujuillo's rule, head to the Museo Memorial de la Resistencia Dominicana. It will be an eye-opening visit for you. For artifacts from the ancient pre-Columbian Taino civilization, check out the Museum of the Dominican Man. Another museum that is worth visiting is the Museo Prehispanico. Here you will be able to see art from the Taino civilization. This museum interestingly is housed in a Pepsi bottling factory.

If you are a lover of kite boarding and windsurfing, Cabaret is the best place for you. It has beautiful beaches, where you can also indulge in scuba diving and other water sports. Snorkeling is best tried at Sousa Beach, which is U-shaped beach surrounded by beautiful, swaying palm trees.
